Thanksgiving 2014

Give Thanks

Crosses Over Mi Casa

High on a hill overlooking the yet to be completed Mi Casa Children’s Home in Tecate, Mexico, sit three crosses. A short hike to the crosses is rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley looking down the road toward Tijuana. There is an even bigger reward though. It is an amazing place to spend a few moments alone communing with the Lord. This picture was taken just a couple weeks ago after a mid-morning climb up the hill. Later that day the 60 plus people on this mission trip would be enjoying an early Thanksgiving feast with some of the kids for whom we were building Mi Casa. There was much to be thankful for, and beneath this cross overlooking the work God had chosen for the 60 plus people on this mission trip seemed the perfect place, this day, to give praise and thanksgiving to the Lord.

On the eve of this Thanksgiving, I look back over these pictures and give thanks for everything the Lord has given me. I think about those who have little and nothing of this world’s goods, and am thankful that they have Jesus and the joy of salvation. There is so much for me to be thankful for. I could not begin to name everything. God is good, and he is generous. Much more generous than I deserve. My response seems far too inadequate. All I can do is climb a small hill overlooking a building project in Mexico and bow humbly before the Creator to say thank you.

Take a moment this weekend. Slow down, stop even, and reflect on the amazing gifts God has given to you. Remember, none of us has anything that he has not first given to us. And while you are thinking about what you have to be thankful for, remember those who have less and consider how you can be a blessing to someone this holiday season, this season of generosity.

Here are a few suggestions.

Thanks for taking the time to read and for your contributions. They are so very much appreciated.

This holiday season, give thanks for the blessings in your life, and remember those in need.
