Repeated thumps with movement on the back porch.
Sunday afternoon football on television interrupted.
Went out to the back porch to see what the commotion was and saw a Carolina Wren flying around the screened porch in search of an escape. I did my best to assist. Unsuccessfully.
Quiet. Where did the bird go? No sign. It must have made it’s escape.
Wait. There it is on the cushion.
I slowly reach down to pick it up. It was too dazed to resist and somehow seemed to understand I was there to help. Taking it outside I placed it near the feeder then went back to get my phone so I could take a picture. Once the visual record was complete the bird flew to a nearby tree. This morning, sitting with a cup of coffee, my Bible, and journal, I notice something flitting around on the porch. There appeared to be another Carolina Wren. The door to the outside had been closed since the previous day’s activity, so obviously there had been two wrens trapped the day before. Mates perhaps, and possibly realizing its partner had been released from the prison the second soon accepted an invitation to depart through the now open door.
