“The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart exults,
And with my song I shall thank Him.”

Four Promises from Psalm 28:7

All of us have times when we feel alone or lost; like a boat in the vast expanse of ocean. Surrounded by nothing but open water feelings of separation from friends and family (unless they are on the boat with us) comes easily.

At times it may be exactly what we are looking for. Quiet alone time. But for the times when being alone is unwelcome I find it helps to remind myself of promises like the ones we find in Psalm 28:7.

  • The Lord is my strength.
  • The Lord is my protection.
  • I trust Him with my whole heart.
  • I am helped.

The result is exultation, songs of praise, and thanksgiving.

They remind me that I am not alone. I am not lost or alone, drifting aimlessly in a vast ocean

I am not alone.

Movement in a Still Image

This photo of a sailboat off the coast at San Diego’s Ocean Beach in California has alway been one of my favorites. I made it while visiting in June 2015.

Using the “rule of thirds,” I placed the sky, boat, and horizon in the top third of the frame, filling the bottom third with the sparkling Pacific Ocean. Your eye is taken from bottom to top, to the sailboat as you are pulled in to the image.

Framing the boat inside the right third gives it someplace to go. Though it remains still in the shot, you can sense movement as it sails across the frame.

How an image is composed is often as important as how it is exposed.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart exults,
And with my song I shall thank Him.”
Psalm 28:7
