Discovering our History and our Ancestors

Adolphus Francis Bayne

According to some cousins, my great-great-grandfather, Adolphus Francis Bayne, was referred to as "Dolly." At least the name they used when we were together several years ago. He was a soldier with the State Troops of Georgia during the Civil War. He is buried at Memory Hill Cemetery, Milledgeville, GA.

Welcome!

I have had a long interest in genealogy which began in 1980 when I did a project for a Cultural Anthropology class at Rockmont College, now Colorado Christian University. Over the many years since, I have done occasional research, made and stockpiled hundreds of pages of notes, and even thought of writing a book.

The college project began with a letter to my grandmother, Marguerite Durant Bogue seeking whatever information she could give me. She told me that Aunt Dot had more extensive information that she would be happy to share. It turned out that much of the information that Aunt Dot had about our immigrant ancestors attempted to connect us to a different Bayne line. I discovered the mistake when some dates didn't line up, and it was verified when I contacted Michael Martin, who had researched his Bayne connection some years earlier.

I have yet to actually meet Michael, which is a little surprising since I now live about a two hour drive from him. It is he I credit with most of the information I have here. A firm believer in not messing with success, I have meshed the information I have gathered on my own with information gathered from his genealogy site. Take a minute and read the welcome text on Michael's site for details about his research.

This little bit of background should give you a good start on this site. Feel free to contact me using the contact form or send me an email.

Other Sites

My first attempt at a genealogy site was in the last century. The site, at Genealogy.com, is still online, but I am unable to edit the site and I cannot vouch for its accuracy since I cannot keep it updated. It is what I knew before the turn of the century.

Sidney Randle Bayne

Sidney Randle Bayne was my grandfather. His mother was Eva Sidney Randle, and the Randle family name, which my father and I both have, can be traced back from her to James Randle in the 1700's. More on this later.
