God’s grace is still enough.
Following the 2016 election a lot of people went into instant panic over the realization that Donald Trump had won. It wasn’t unlike the panic that occurred following the 2020 election of Joe Biden, with the exception that four years ago there wasn’t an attempted coup.
There was panic in 2016, and some who claimed the election was fraudulent, but in the end the results were peacefully affirmed and there was a peaceful transition of government.
And, no one was killed.
Remaining calm and trusting in God’s sovereignty, I posted to Facebook and later wrote this blog post. Here is the Facebook post.
Everyone relax. You’re all going to be fine. It’s not like we haven’t been through this before. We don’t understand God’s ways, but rest assured the outcome of this election is all part of His awesome plan.
It may not be what I would have allowed my creation to do, but then I’m not an omniscient god.
He is a good God who has promised that all things work together for good. I will wake up in the morning excited to see what he is going to do next, because I believe Him and trust Him.
Four years later
Here we are, four years down the road. We have a new President, and thankfully our democracy moves forward, still intact, in spite of a violent overthrow attempt.
Yet, many people on the losing side are in a panic.
So, here I am, digging up an old post to once again try and reassure people that God is still in control.
Everyone relax. You are all going to be fine. It’s not like we haven’t been through this before. We don’t understand God’s ways, but rest assured the outcome of this election, and every other human event, is all part of His awesome plan. A plan that is so far from our finite and childish understanding as to be incomprehensible. And that is the whole point.
We cannot comprehend His ways and are left with but one alternative…
Trust in God.
He is a good God who has promised that all things work together for good. I wake up each morning, spend time with Him, looking forward with anticipation as He reveals the next thing. I do this because I believe Him and trust Him and know that He cares for me.
Something else I know. He cares for you too.
Because He cares for me and for you, I can know with absolute confidence that we will make it through the next four years and come out exactly where the Lord wants us to be. That doesn’t mean it will be easy or that it will work out the way we want. But rest assured, it will be what He wants, which is so much better.
…God is in control
God is in control. It wouldn’t matter how this election, or any election came out, He is in control no matter what we do or what we think. So you might as well relax. God’s got this, and He has you. The question is, do you have Him? [Matthew 6:25-34; Philippians 4:6-7]
His grace is enough to carry us through the worst of times and the best of times, the darkest night and the brightest day, Republican administrations and Democratic administrations. No matter where you fall on the lists of meaningless labels, God knows you and loves you.
That is why He sent his Son to die in our place so that we could know this truth that sets free and have the kind of trusting relationship that assures us of what the future holds. Though there may be storms along the way, times of trial and pain, He loves us, and He will bring us through whatever storm we face. Even an election that doesn’t go our way.
So, if you are angry, upset, frightened, worried, distraught, jubilant, happy, or don’t care, about a Biden presidency, relax. God is in control and his great, amazing grace, his never ending love, is enough to get you through.
If you have questions or comments, and you don’t want to leave them here, you are welcome to contact me. I would be honored to talk to you more about God’s amazing grace.
