October Outtakes – Images Tell the Story of the 10th Month
It is time for my October Outtakes.
Starting this month I will be posting a few images made during the previous month. In spite of calling them outtakes they are not necessarily bloopers. For the October Outtakes I am showing images from two events. One at the beginning of the month, the other near the end.
The idea of outtakes isn’t new, and I have seen a few of these types of post before. My inspiration for doing this is Clifford Oto, a photographer for the Stockton Record in Stockton, California. He is one of the what is probably only a handful of photographers left working for a newspaper. Each month he also post outtakes to his blog. His October 2018 outtakes post is here.
Here is my selection of ten images from the tenth month of 2018.
The Spokane County Courthouse. It looks like a castle and is said to “closely resemble two famous 16th century chateaux in the Loire Valley of France, the Chateau de Chambord, built in 1519 and the Chateau d’Azay Le Rideau built in 1516.” It is an impressive and beautiful building, and seems somewhat out of place in the Pacific Northwest. Read more about the history of this impressive building here.
The Spokane River runs through the heart of downtown Spokane, Washington. From Riverfront Park you can enjoy Spokane Falls as it the river tumbles through the center of town. In October it is somewhat less impressive than in the spring. At least that’s what they tell me, but it was certainly impressive enough. Here is a link to more information.
One of the most beautiful places we visited on our Spokane tour was the Japanese Garden at Manito Park. The trees were just beginning to turn to their fiery fall finery.
The Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist sits high on a hill overlooking the city of Spokane, Washington.
Our visit to Spokane also took us to neighboring Couer d’Alene, Idaho where we spent only a few minutes driving by Lake Couer d’Alene on a cold, dreary, and rainy day. It was darker than it looks in this brightened picture. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure it would even turn out.
SummerGrove Fall Festival
One of the highlights of the year at our community of SummerGrove is the annual Fall Festival which takes place right around Halloween.
Girls enjoying one of the rides at the SummerGrove Community Fall Festival in Newnan, Georgia. Spread your wings and fly.
Today’s bounce houses are more like obstacle courses using air to create the obstacles. I captured this kid through a screen as he was running through, avoiding giant balloon pushback.
No Fall Festival would be complete without a sack race. This young lady has the right idea. Jump high for maximum momentum. She easily won her race.
Pay attention kids, and you to can be a pumpkin ring toss hero just like mom.
