• Notes

  Joseph Moreland was one of six children of Turner Moreland of Russell County, Alabama. He married Mary Ann Lamar, the sister of Mirabeau B. Lamar, the second president of the Republic of Texas, and came to Texas in about 1839. Joseph served the Republic in public office until his death in 1874. He died at his brother's home, A. C. Moreland, in Houston and was buried in Fairfield Cemetary, Freestone County, Texas. [1]
