Nan Bentley
Nan passed away peacefully in the company of family on September 14, 2019, after a brief illness. Nan was a longtime UU, first in Palo Alto, CA, then here in Seattle. She was active in our Wednesday Forum, Humanist Group and as a Monday-morning counter, as well as having joined one of our Transylvanian pilgrimages.
Karen Bentley Pollick and Heather Bentley will be hosting a celebration of Nan's life on October 12 at Shoreline Unitarian Universalist Church, 14724 1st Ave NE. It will be followed by a reception in the same location. We hope you will be able to join us for music and sharing.
In lieu of flowers, Nan would have loved donations to be made to any of the following groups:
University of California, Berkeley
International Refugee Commission
University Unitarian Church, Seattle
Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc.
Amnesty International - USA
Seattle Opera
Nordic Heritage Museum
Please don't hesitate to contact either Karen or Heather with any questions.
We invite you to write any memories of Nan or of your experiences together in a card. We will treasure these mementos of the lasting impact she had on so many people all over the world. Please send to or drop off at her home address, 2553 12th Ave West, Seattle, WA 98119. We will also have a memorial photo gallery if you wish to share any golden moments with Nan captured in your presence.
You may enjoy reading an oral history interview with Nan on the Nordic Heritage Museum website. It is a wonderful summary of our family history as well as her life and her interest in our Norwegian roots. Plus it is transcribed in her words, so you will feel like you are having a conversation with her.
